Opportunity Details 

Compensation: Salaries range from 145K to 205K. One of the Patent Agents our network recruiter placed with the group, received a year-end bonus of 55K. The firm provides an excellent working environment. The firm’s IP Life Science practice commands one of the single highest bill rates within the AM. This is because the group represents the world's most prestigious Big Pharma, Fortune Biotech companies and many of the most prestigious start-up companies that are backed by well capitalized private equity investors. The group’s ability to attract cutting-edge complex work that demands a high billing rate, allows the leadership to compensate off lockstep and above market, so their compensation plan to their Patent Agents is similar to the firm’s Associate compensation scale. The hour requirement is 1750, including 150 hours for pro-bono work and training. 

Position Details: The IP leadership is creating a new Patent Agent position. This person will report directly to the Global IP Life Science Chair and work with a selective group of key Partners within the firm’s IP Life Science and IP Transactional group. The Global Chair is considered one of the nation’s most leading IP experts and among the top rainmakers in the country and has been honored in multiple categories by numerous prestigious IP publications. The IP leaders provide excellent mentoring and are known to always have an open door. In addition, they do not require much face time, as long as the person is contributing to the group. The group operates in an entrepreneurial manner.

This role will involve being a point person on major key clients. This person will extensively interact with clients, advising them on complex scientific matters that arise. The person will also be involved in patent portfolio development with key clients. The Agent will be offered a leadership role if desired and will play a major role in developing the Patent Agent team as the group continues to grow. This person will also work in areas such as client counseling and IP transactional as well. This person will also be involved in new business development. Client Counseling is a large segment of the group’s IP practice and this person will be heavily involved in this. 

Firm information: This firm has a reputation as being considered one of the most elite IP practice groups in the country. The IP leadership has lateraled in several Rainmaker Partners with substantial client followings. The firm is attracting these Partners because it has grown 48% over the past few years. The firm is among the highest in AM regarding profit per Partner. They have one of the highest equity distributions in the country. The firm provides one of the best quality life work environments within the AM. The firm’s management team takes a strong position regarding family values. The IP group has one the lowest billing hour requirement and highest compensation.

Qualifications: The qualified Patent Agent should hold an advanced degree (Ph.D., in Chemistry). A strong Organic Chemistry background is helpful and desired. As a result of the complex nature of the work and the extensive client interaction, qualified candidates must have excellent academics, along with strong written and verbal communication skills. This role is based out of Boston, New York, or Silicon Valley. The firm will pay for relocation and will consider Patent Agents working remotely. The firm has not returned to the office at this time, so the position will start out with this person working remotely.
