This Am Law firm seeks an associate with at least four (4) years of experience in patent counseling and prosecution to join its Intellectual Property group. The patent counseling and prosecution team focuses exclusively on the life sciences industry, handling critical small and large molecule patent development, protection, and enforcement matters for high-profile companies.

Representing both pre-public and discovery stage biotechnology pharmaceutical companies, as well as established, publicly traded international pharmaceutical companies, the team oversees worldwide patent portfolio development. This includes prosecution, counseling, due diligence, transactions, and infringement defense and avoidance. Regular representation in patent disputes before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is part of their routine. The firm's attorneys also possess significant experience and success in developing strategies for protecting second-generation drugs and biologics.

The firm's practice holds top rankings in industry publications such as Chambers and Partners and The Legal 500 US. The salary for this position is $310,000 or higher, depending on class year and experience.

Ideal candidates for this position will hold a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline. They should have experience representing biotech companies and investors in strategic international patent portfolio development and life cycle management, as well as in non-infringement and invalidity analysis, post-grant proceedings, and IP due diligence. Prior experience in the pharmaceutical industry is advantageous, and candidates must be registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
